The Beginning of Something New

200,000 rupiah can you believe it!? Here in 5 minutes I told one person about the magazine and BAM, 200,000! That’s $20. That’s equivalent to what some working girls earn in one night, half for others a quarter for the rest. It’s equivalent to four days work in a good job in an office, 6 days work for a labourer and 10 days work for someone who works at a laundry place. It’s £15 in 5 minutes, even you or I can’t complain about that. It’s brilliant!

It made this chap, John’s his name, feel he was doing something great. For a cause that’s more than just asking for money, but because it’s creating sustainable success AND paying-it-forward! With the other people who’ve committed to the cause that’s 360,000 total raised for the project in 5 days (well 45 minutes if you count the time I’ve spent telling people about the project, interviewing them the rest of the time I was working on the magazine.)

The potential for what we have here is equivalent to the capstone of the pyramid. Everyone will be drawn to it. It will be good to see the possibility of this when we get in to full swing of it. The key here is to train these ladies so they are able to realise and understand the concepts behind this project so they can develop the processes so that one person eventually works to spread a replica of this project to other challenges on the island and tI will retire in to what I do best – train, coach, and mentor! This is the future of business there’s no doubt for me now.

Only a week ago I was dying (dead) to the world in a room all by myself in the middle of nowhere. And the first question I asked was “How can I help the people in my life, how can I benefit people in my life, how can I truly benefit people?” The suffering subsided and a new world opened up. In less than four days I am 360,000 rupiah richer (well the magazine is). fortunately I have a training gig in Singapore which will cover me for the next two months or so. At last! Though expenses coming out of the Yin Yang to make this happen.

Cost of Magazine Set-up + 10,000 units at $12000

Cost of t-shirts and ID tags: $350 (approx)

Computer for design, and operations: $2,000

Monthly operational costs (internet, coffee): $100

Total + 10% to the nearest whole figure: $16,000

(not including basic personal expenses, living, time, food etc)

So were $40 of the way there!

A project to inspire people to make money through changing the world for the better!

A Clear Diamond Target Point Through The Clouds

At last clear goal comes together. A Diamond Goal at that! The place where many people are helped and benefitted and those people will go on to help others. Excellent!

So my immediate point I’m aiming for is to have the website complete and presentable with as many of the latest updates on it as possible. Not as easy a task as new materials, refined ideas and people’s needs affect how the content should be presented. I have told my speaker agent that I will have it done for him by Monday his time (about 7pm Monday my time). Then he’s promised he’ll start fishing for a paid gig (at $20,000 US a gig it would really help right now!) It will also mean that i can start marketing the website properly with the blogs I’ve started up, the poll I have in place and start driving campaigns. Campaigns like the knowledge of my book, PR, marketing, network channels, and so forth.

This will set me up perfectly to start interacting with businesses full-time getting their feedback, engagement and sponsorship for the upcoming TEDx Bali event that I’m heading. With the two interviews I’ve already had we’ve had some excellent ideas come out. Reoccurring themes are employee motivation and engagement plus intercultural impact especially when it comes to teams.
We’ve even come up with a couple of great suggestions for speakers for the event and a theme that will drive Bali in to the forefront of the future of business. With the right contacts it could turn in to A Future Expo of some sort. Gold dust!

The mindfulness applied here, in simplest terms, is:

– on the helping level I am organising this event to to bring people who can aid their businesses where they are struggling. It will also give them the opportunity to land business with other businesses in the area.
– on the benefitting level, instead of just giving them a hand or leg up, I’m looking to bring in speakers who will give them tools that will inspire them. Tools and ideas to apply to their business and encourage them to develop themselves further themselves.
– on the truly benefitting level I will bring in speakers and I will talk around the topic myself to inspire companies to find ways of having a positive social and environmental impact while their striving towards success in their business. This has created a knock on effect in the past, let’s hope we can work the magic again!

So I will be able to focus on the interviews for the book, build an interactive community working on issues in all areas of business and the marketplace. All that will be left to integrate the expertise, the blogs, and the feedback in the new Mindful Program I’m working on. Plus continue learning Chinese and Indonesian. That’s it. Oh apart from the fitness need to keep up lost lots of weight and starting to look shapely. And need to keep reading a topic about doing business (so much expertise out there and I need to know what it is and apply it to my business or get someone in to do it). That reminds me the adverts that will need to go up. but that’s it…..Oh of course, money, I’m broke! Asked a friend for help yesterday. He’s very successful, lots of money in the oil and gas field (at least I think he is…ummmmm thinking!). He has Buddhist teachers and has donated before, I thought he would at least understand and help…….nothing! He became so inattentive, it became awkward. I felt so embarassed. But like I learnt when I was raising funds for the North Pole expedition, “We are beggars, glorified.”
It was a good reminder of the pride I’ve built up over the years and a chance to test his practice of generosity and compassion. Of course I completely forgot about the later practice when I approached him on skype all I was thinking was how he could help me. If I’d approached with the attitude to benefit his practice however, I would have felt much better than I did last night.

Ok so get everything together so I can start blitzing the marketing on this, continue with interviews for the book and the TEDx Bali event, develop program for website, earn money and get in front of Bill Gates!

There you go! First set of goals…….by Monday they will have changed.

Now where that code for that contact form?

The Mindful Goal-Setter

Oh forgot….need to master social-media and have all the accounts I want set up and ready in to interact with!
